The big news is coming from the Google Cloud newsroom. Google Cloud has won a major contract deal from Renault, a French-based car making company. Google will be providing it’s cloud services to Renault specifically in automation and robotics to improve the performance and production of the Company. Google Cloud will collect data from Renault factories, robots, and supply chains, the companies said.

As per the report, this is the first US tech company to have this much huge deal in Cloud in the French market.

“We believe that manufacturing companies need a new platform to complement the assembly lines, the supply chains and other systems they already have,” Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian said in an interview.

“Google Cloud is trying to catch up with the major cloud services providers in the manufacturing sector. It has a third business position in Europe behind Amazon Web Services(AWS) and Microsoft Azure. It has a total 8% share of the total market in the first quarter,” Bloomberg said in a post.

Bloomberg also said that due to the outbreak of Covid-19 Renault is under pressure to cut the cost. Renault has also obtained a 5 billion-euro ($5.7 billion) government-backed credit facility to remain in the market without cutting the jobs. Renault may get some cost-cutting with the deal of Google cloud.

The Google Cloud deal offers “tremendous fuel for the improvement of our plants,” Eric Marchiol, head of manufacturing Renault, said in an interview.
